I recently came across a graphic shared on Twitter, which touted the benefits of
drinking warm water with lemon, and I wanted to share it with you.
Also, see my hints below for uses of the lemon after you have squeezed out the juice!
What are you waiting for? Get to the store or farm market and stock up on those luscious lemons today! (Well, wait – finish reading this post and then you can go).
- Warm the water on the stove top or in the microwave.
- Add the lemon juice and stir to taste.
- Drink warm.
- Repeat daily.

- Fresh lemon juice will work best for this beverage. For best results in squeezing fresh lemons, first roll them on the counter to get the juices flowing. Then, cut the lemon in half. Holding the cut side up with your hand placed over it, squeeze the juice into a glass or bowl – this will help keep the pits out of the juice. Remove any pits which do escape into the juice.
- Don’t throw away the squeezed lemon halves! Here are a few uses for recycling them:
- Roughly chop them and drop them into your garbage disposal with ce cubes. Cover the disposal and run it to grind the lemons and ice cubes – this will clean the disposal and leave a fresh smell. This also works with the peels from oranges and grapefruits.
- Rest your elbows in the peels to help lighten dark skin on your elbows. It’s not a quick fix, but extended use will eventually lighten the darker skin because the acid in the lemon works as a bleaching agent on the skin.
- Use zest from the lemon peels in other recipes. Put some zest into ice-cube trays, fill them with water and freeze. The next time you need lemon zest, just defrost the ice-cube into the cooking pan or pot.
