This updated recipe is healthier than the standard ranch dressings you usually see. By using yogurt instead of sour cream, you reduce the calories substantially, without sacrificing flavor. Not only it is great on salads, but it’s also a tasty vegetable dip as well.
1/2 cup nonfat plain yogurt, or 1/3 cup nonfat Greek style yogurt
1/3 cup low-fat buttermilk
3 Tbsp. mayonnaise
1 1/2 tsp. lemon juice
1 tsp. Dijon mustard
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1 Tbsp. finely chopped fresh chives
- If using plain yogurt, place it in a strainer lined with a paper towel and place the strainer over a bowl. Let the yogurt drain and thicken for 20 minutes.
- In a medium bowl, combine the strained or Greek-style yogurt and the rest of the ingredients.
- Add salt, to taste.
Food Mingle Blog Alternatives and Substitutions:
- Next time, I would reduce the amount of onion powder, because the taste bordered on an onion dip/dressing.
- For a more hardy dressing, you can use low-fat yogurt and/or full fat buttermilk, but know that it will add extra calories.
Yield: 1 cup
